Ruth Austin

Ruth brings a lifelong passion for movement, connection, and inner peace to her role as a yoga instructor. With a journey that began at age 14 after moving from the U.K. to Canada, yoga has remained a meaningful and grounding practice in her life ever since. She completed her initial aerobic instructor training in 1987 and, following her retirement, returned to her roots by completing a 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in 2022, along with additional training in Yin and Restorative Yoga the same year.

Ruth’s approach is centered on wellness for every body. Inspired from a young age by her first instructor, a 70-year-old woman who regained mobility through yoga after living with the effects of polio, Ruth has seen firsthand how yoga can support strength, flexibility, and resilience at any stage of life. Her father’s struggles with mobility and balance as he aged, as well as witnessing the impact of mental health challenges on loved ones, deepened her resolve to offer yoga as a way to support both the body and mind.

Her classes focus on body awareness, self-compassion, and finding strength in gentle, mindful movement. Ruth emphasizes listening to your body, honoring its limits, and letting go of competition or comparison. With a light-hearted sense of humor and a deeply calming presence, she creates a space where students feel welcome, accepted, and supported.

Ruth believes there is no “typical” yoga student, just individuals seeking connection, peace, and health. She ensures everyone leaves class feeling refreshed, stretched, and more at ease, often saying the real reward is giving someone 45 minutes of calm in an otherwise hectic day.

In a wellness industry that can sometimes feel exclusive or intimidating, Ruth champions accessibility and kindness. She plans to continue expanding her teaching in both Hatha and Yin/Restorative yoga, reaching more people who can benefit from the physical, emotional, and nervous system support yoga provides.
